Brave is competing with Google Chrome for the highest downloaded browser #cryptocurrency
Brave, the web browser with built-in ad-protection via cryptocurrency, is a viable competitor to Google Chrome. In fact, the browser is performing so well that it has even been able to top Chrome on the mobile application list for most downloaded apps.
Fighting for survival
Of course, it hasn’t been able to hold that position indefinitely. Instead, the two applications often fight over the second place spot. However, none have been able to take out Mozilla Firefox, the number one downloaded browser. According to Ethereum World News, the second place position comes from a list that counts all downloads across the world. The idea behind Brave is only possible due to its Basic Attention Token (BAT). Essentially, anyone on the browser goes around the internet with all ads, trackers, and cookies blocked. This enhances their browsing experience and saves a bunch of time all while improving privacy.
However, users that want to support their favorite sites can turn these shields off. Or, the website can opt-in for Brave rewards. This means that users on the Brave browser can give tokens to participating websites instead of view ads. Both parties win here, assuming both take part in the process. Plus, new users are given a small amount of BAT to test out before they have to purchase the cryptocurrency.
A war for attention
Moreover, this means that users must use the BAT asset while browsing around. According to the publication, however, there is a set of users who aren’t the biggest fan of BAT.For example, there are those out there who are only for Bitcoin. They stand against any sort of altcoin and refuse to use Brave as it uses something aside from the first cryptocurrency.
In this vein, one company, GAB, are working on a browser called Dissenter. This is a fork of the Brave technology that utilizes Bitcoin instead of BAT. Brave’s founder and the GAB team often go at it on Twitter, though Brave is certainly in the lead in terms of followers. This is helped by the fact that BAT is now listed on cryptocurrency platforms such as Coinbase.
