The best crypto podcast episodes of 2019
In 2019 the crypto podcast space exploded. The leading podcasts grew in scope and popularity and a number of new podcasts joined the fray. It became increasingly difficult to keep up with the stream of constant high-quality crypto podcast content.
Here at Brave New Coin, we started our own podcast The Crypto Conversation, and we partnered with the Ledgerstatus podcast.
As well as hosting The Crypto Conversation podcast, I listen to a lot of crypto podcast content myself. So here it is, my subjective but definitive list of the best bitcoin, crypto, and crypto adjacent podcast episodes of 2019. In no particular order, all are essential listens.
The best crypto podcasts of 2019
-
What Bitcoin Did host Peter McCormack had a big year, putting out an immense amount of content to crush the podcast game in 2019. My favorite episode was Part 1 with Balaji S. Srinivasan. In a wide-ranging discussion, Balaji touched on non-player characters in VR, why smart countries are led by engineers, how China’s firewall actually boosted Chinese innovation, and the incredible soft power wielded by software CEOs.
-
Stephan Livera brings the BTC heat from an Austrian/Libertarian perspective. His episode with @100trillionUSD was PlanB’s 1st interview and his Bitcoin stock-to-flow model soon became a key narrative. Will the model hold? Can the model hold? I’m not sure but it has certainly added spice to the 2020 Bitcoin halving huh?!
-
This one is more crypto adjacent, but Naval X Joe Rogan delivered in a big way. Naval delivered his unique blend of inscrutable wisdom mixed with actionable insights. As always, Naval covers a lot of ground so it’s hard to summarize but I like “Life is really a single-player game. It’s all in your head."
-
Anthony Pompliano is at his best here. He crowd-sourced a series of tough questions for a controversial guest, Brad Garlinghouse, CEO at Ripple. Brad defends XRP and even admits that he is long Bitcoin. Pomp and Brad spar in a respectful, engaging conversation that lets the listener judge for themself.
-
I thought Charlie Lee was unusually candid in this episode with Laura Shin on Unchained. Honest reflections on the early days of Litecoin, the burden of being a high-profile crypto person and the pushback to his decision to sell his Litecoins close to the top.
-
Ledgerstatus (Bryan) and Brave New Coin’s Josh Olszewicz host the Ledgerstatus podcast. Their trading/price action episodes are the best in the game if you’re a trader or a chart geek. I really enjoyed this episode with Matt Odell, an OG Bitcoiner.
-
Jamie Bartlett put in the hard yards making The Missing Crypto Queen - a deep dive into the Onecoin scam that saw Jamie in hot pursuit of the elusive Dr Ruja. A compelling cautionary tale with great music. Grrrr scammers!
-
Vitalik Buterin doesn’t do many interviews but his conversation with Eric R Weinstein was fascinating on many levels. One surprising takeaway - both Eric and Vitalik are skeptical of blockchain’s long term value proposition. This one is super nerdy and super fun.
-
Mark Yusko and I talk investing, Ray Kurzweil, s-curves, BTC as a virus, exponential growth and why Keynes said, "Words ought to be a little wild, for they are the assault of thoughts on the unthinking." Mark is a uniquely articulate interview subject and he crushes this. A must listen.
-
The Hidden Forces podcast is one of my fav podcasts. Demetri Kofinas covers the hidden forces creating change in a complex world. Raoul Pal was an in-demand podcast guest in 2019, he’s on form here talking the Fourth Turning, Macroeconomics, Bitcoin, Libra and more.
-
Any crypto podcast list needs Crypto Charles and the Crypto Entrepreneurs Podcast. Charles puts the shine on the crypto entrepreneurs who don’t get invited on other podcasts. Did you know that Bitlord started in the oil & gas industry? Me neither. Bitlord drops knowledge. Get amongst it.
-
Luke Martin is a natural host, I enjoyed hearing Willy Woo describe his Bitcoin 10,000-year view chart - “Bankers say it's a bubble. Technologists call it disruption, but students of history would call it the dawn of the digital age.” That was a mic drop moment.
-
The intro to the new Unscrypted podcast by Andreas Antonopoulos says “Caution - Side effects may include an obsession with disruptive technology. Job dissatisfaction & a desire for rebellion have been reported. Unscrypted may lower your ability to tolerate bankers." So good!
