Crypto.com strikes new sports deal, to sponsor Philadelphia 76ers
US professional basketball league NBA team Philadelphia 76ers announced on the 22nd that it has partnered with cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com as its next official jersey patch partner.
As part of the partnership, 76ers will issue its first non-fungible token (NFT), which fans will be able to purchase through Crypto.com.
Starting with the new NBA season, which kicks off October 20 this year, all four versions of the Sixers uniform will feature the Crypto.com logo on the left shoulder throughout the tournament.
Chris Heck, Sixers president of business operations, said:
“We are thrilled to launch a long-term partnership with such a progressive team at Crypto.com, a company that shares our drive for greatness. Crypto.com will be woven into the fabric of our identity, and together, we will change the landscape for how crypto is integrated in sports.”
This is Crypto.com’s first partnership with an NBA team, which announced a series of partnerships with leading professional sports companies since the start of this year.
NHL (Pro Ice Hockey) powerhouse Montreal Canadiens, French soccer club Paris Saint-Germain, Italian football league Serie A, F1 (Formula 1), mixed martial arts promotion company UFC, and even the professional esports team ‘Fnatic’ have all announced their sponsorship agreement with Crypto.com.
The basketball arena at the newly renovated Wells Fargo Center will also include brandings of Crypto.com via courtside LED screens and the baseline apron.
Kris Marszalek, co-founder and CEO of Crypto.com, said:
“The NBA is one of the most popular leagues in the world, and the 76ers were an obvious choice. Together we’re going to create integrated experiences for fans everywhere; our patch and court integrations are just the beginning.”
As part of the partnership, another new City Edition uniform will be unveiled in November to commemorate an iconic era in Sixers’ history.
