Dutch soccer club PSV reveals holding Bitcoin in balance sheet
Prestigious Dutch soccer club PSV Eindhoven holds Bitcoin in their balance sheet, Bitcoin Magazine confirmed the situation and reported on Wednesday.
News of PSV holding Bitcoin came after the club signed a two-year partnership deal with European cryptocurrency exchange Anycoin Direct in August. At the time, the exchange announced it will pay the entire sponsorship with Bitcoin.
It has now been revealed that the Bitcoins received as part of the deal are still held on the club’s balance sheet.
At the time of the deal, Frans Janssen, commercial director of PSV, said:
“The possibilities and the future that the world of cryptocurrency offers is very promising. As a club in the heart of the Brainport region, we are always innovating, and cryptocurrency fits well into this picture.”
Since the amount paid by the exchange was not disclosed, it is uncertain how much the football club owns in Bitcoin. Janssen later told Bitcoin Magazine:
“Anycoin paid their sponsor rights to us via a certain number of bitcoins which we hold in our own wallet.”
PSV Eindhoven is a 108-years-old sports club based in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. It plays in the top-tier league in Dutch football Eredivisie, a league it has won 24 times.
