Ethereum’s beacon chain to undergo Altair upgrade by October-end
In this week’s Ethereum Developers Conference, the developers gave a go-ahead for the deployment of Altair’s upgrade. It will be the first hard fork upgrade of the Ethereum beacon chain, scheduled for October 27.
The conference reminded that Altair will introduce the ‘Light Client Synchronization Committee’ as well as some economic changes.
The ‘Light Client Synchronization Committee’ is a committee where validators are regularly incentivized to provide block header information to light clients.
The developers hinted that the last hindrance they faced was the low participation rate of the synchronization committee on the test network. However, crypto researcher Protolambda revealed a series of easy-to-solve problems that solved the multiple issues the committee was facing.
Now the developers have revealed the upgrade date and time which have been set on
October 27th (Wednesday), in time for Epoch 74240 (10:56:23 UTC).
Previously, the developers selected the 74247th epoch as the upgrade scheduled time, but due to some technical reasons, the developers said they preferred to use the earlier epoch.
