Theatre chain AMC may accept DOGE as payments
Major US theatre chain AMC Entertainment might add Dogecoin to its list of crypto payments options after CEO Adam Aron conducted a Twitter poll on Tuesday asking users if they should accept the popular meme-coin as payment.
The Tweet read:
“I sincerely want to hear your opinion, via this Twitter Poll. By year-end 2021, AMC will take Bitcoin, Etherum, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash for online payments. I hear from many on my Twitter feed we should accept Dogecoin too. Do you think AMC should explore accepting Dogecoin?”
At the time of writing, the ‘of course’ option accounted for 69.8% of the votes of the total 112,651 votes the post had accumulated.
Last week, CEO Aron announced that in addition to Bitcoin (BTC), the entertainment giant will start supporting Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) later this year. Bitcoin support was announced at the financial results briefing in August.
While Dogecoin is known as a popular meme-coin, AMC’s shares are known as a leading “meme stock”.
Dogecoin has been interestingly gaining attention in the entertainment market after NBA teams Dallas Mavericks and Newegg also adopted Dogecoin for payment of tickets and merchandise since March of this year. Since then, their sales from Dogecoin have increased fivefold in April.
