Twitter adds Bitcoin as payment option for tipping
After months of testing, Twitter has finally enabled its adult users to tip their favorite creators with Bitcoin. Currently, the feature is only available on iOS with an Android version expected to roll out soon.
Speculations over the new feature were first revealed by mobile developer Alessandro Paluzzi who posted screenshots of the Twitter app containing options for users to add their Ethereum and Bitcoin addresses to their profile.
Now Twitter has released a feature where users can add Strike, a payment app built on the Bitcoin Lightning Network that enables users to send and receive Bitcoin on Twitter.
Previously, users were allowed to tip via fiat currencies and using traditional payment apps such as Venmo and CashApp. Other options include Bandcamp, Chipper, Patreon, Razorpay, Wealthsimple, or GoFundMe, as per the user’s choice.
The update is currently only available to iOS users globally and is yet to be launched on Android and Twitter’s web version.
In addition, Twitter will not take any commission of the money sent through the feature.
Apart from this, Twitter also plans to support the authentication for NFTs as well as allow users to showcase their digital collection on the platform. It is uncertain when the feature will be, but the company noted that it’s another way to support digital artists.
