Axie Infinity developer to raise $150M series B from a16z, others
Popular blockchain game ‘Axie Infinity’ developer Sky Mavis will raise approximately $150 million in series B funding from major VC a16z and others.
According to The Information, the procurement round, led by Silicon Valley’s well-known venture capitalist Andreessen Horowitz, would skyrocket the company’s valuation to $3 billion.
Meanwhile, details of other investors apart from a16z have not been disclosed yet.
Previously, the company raised $7.5 million in series A funding round in May of this year. At the time, some of the investors included Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, along with lead investor Libertus Capital.
Founded in 2018, Sky Mavis is a popular technology company that has recently gained attention due to Axie Infinity’s soaring popularity.
Recently in a podcast with The Block, Sky Mavis co-founder Jeff Zirlin revealed his plans to launch his own decentralized exchange (DEX).
In addition, Axie Infinity announced that it has started staking the original token AXS and distributing AXS tokens via airdrop to early members of the game.
