NFT platform Sorare signs major deal with Germany’s Bundesliga
Two of the world’s five biggest soccer leagues have now partnered with fantasy football platform ‘Sorare’ in a bid to join the newfound NFT craze. After striking a partnership deal with Spain’s LaLiga in September, Sorare has come on board to mint NFTs for German football league Fußball-Bundesliga.
As per the announcement, fans, collectors and fantasy soccer game players would be able to play and trade unique NFT cards of team players.
Sorare would mint digital images of the players of first and second division teams of the German football league, turning them into tradable cards. The cards can be then used to build a fantasy team on the Sorare platform. The deal would be effective until the 2022-23 season.
This time, Sorare has expanded the deal by bringing video content to the table. The ‘NFT moments’ by Sorare would be similar to the content curated by Dapper Labs’ NBA Top Shots, which sells video moments for matches as NFTs.
Robert Klein, CEO of DFL subsidiary Bundesliga International, said in a statement:
“NFTs are a digital technology of the future that should not be underestimated – especially in the sports sector. I am therefore convinced that this collaboration will give rise to further impulses. At the same time, Sorare will benefit from the appeal of one of the most popular sport brands.”
Previously, the company’s focus was fantasy football, having more than 200 team partnerships in the area. However, with this partnership, Sorare has expanded its footing in the biggest 20 football leagues worldwide.
Nicolas Julia, CEO and co-founder of Sorare, said:
“Germany usually attracts the highest average attendance in football stadiums. It is football as it’s meant to be, where fans engage with their favorite players and club each weekend. We’re thrilled to allow Bundesliga fans in Germany and globally to come together online and to feel ownership of the sports they love.”
