University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School has decided to accept cryptocurrencies as a payment option for its six-week “Economics of Blockchain and Digital Assets” course. The move has made UPenn the first Ivy League university to accept tuition in digital currencies.

Wharton School, a business institution under the Ivy League university, has tapped ‘Coinbase Commerce’ to accept payments in cryptocurrencies. Its newly launched course on Blockchain was developed in partnership with Prysm Group, a blockchain economic consulting firm.

Students are available to pay in Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Stablecoin USDC, according to the university’s press release.

Wharton school is one of the top business schools in the US with a vast alumni network consisting of Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai, and the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump.

The newly launched program has been designed “for business professionals and executives from a range of backgrounds, including traditional finance, management and tech,” said Professor Kevin Werbach, the program’s academic director.

The course will cover a diverse range of blockchain use cases such as smart contracts and DAOs for specialists with a FinTech background. In addition, it will feature guest speakers from Andreessen Horowitz, Circle, The Defiant, Forbes, Litecoin, the Unchained podcast, the US Security and Exchange Commission, and the World Economic Forum.

The course is currently open for registration, and classes will officially begin from January 3rd.

More universities have begun to accept payment in cryptocurrencies such as King’s College in New York, Financia Business School in France, and ESMT in Germany.
