US, European law enforcement seize $5M in crypto from drug traffickers
International investigative agencies, including the US FBI and Europol, announced on the 26th that they have arrested 150 drug traffickers and seized $4.9 million worth of cryptocurrencies in a coordinated darknet drug bust.
The announcement, made by the US Department of Justice, revealed officials confiscating over $31 million in cash and cryptocurrency, 45 guns, as well as 234 kg of drugs which included 152 kg of amphetamine, 27 kg of opioids, and over 25 000 ecstasy pills.
This international initiative, “Operation Dark HunTor,” is a crackdown on drug trafficking organizations that are active in several countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France, and Australia.
As per the press release, the coordinated international effort “builds on the success of last year’s Operation DisrupTor and the coordinated law enforcement takedown earlier this year of DarkMarket.”
The “Operation DisrupTor” also recorded a seizure of $6.5 million in cash and cryptocurrencies with over 170 arrests worldwide.
