WeChat restricts Binance, Coinbase searches
Popular Chinese social networking app WeChat has censored the searches for names of popular crypto exchanges such as Binance, Coinbase, Houbi, and more. The news came after China imposed a stringent ban on crypto-related activities such as mining and trading.
WeChat is China’s largest messaging platform and has become an important tool for delivering news and information.
Coindesk and various other media outlets reported that when searching for crypto exchange, the search results returned with a message saying “No More Results”.
The articles mentioning popular crypto exchanges have not been taken down, but have been hidden from the public, as per news site Protocol.
In June of this year, China’s popular social media platform ‘Weibo’ and China’s largest search engine ‘Baidu’ blocked searches for the words ‘Binance’, ‘Fobi’, and ‘OKEx’.
