FC Barcelona terminates marketing contract with NFT marketplace Ownix
Spain’s popular soccer team “FC Barcelona” announced on November 18 that it has canceled its contract with the NFT marketplace “Ownix” over allegations of cryptocurrency-based fraud.
The announcement came just two weeks after FC Barcelona had signed a commercial contract with Ownix. The NFT marketplace was set to auction off the Club-based NFTs on the 24th of this month.
The football club canceled the contract on the same day of the arrest of Israeli crypto mogul Moshe Hogeg, who is reportedly associated with Ownix, The Associated Press and others reported Thursday.
Hogeg was arrested on charges of sexual assault and a massive fraud related to cryptocurrencies.
“In light of information received today that goes against the Club’s values, FC Barcelona hereby communicate the cancellation of the contract to create and market NFT digital assets with Ownix with immediate effect,” the team said in a released statement.
