Pro-crypto candidate Eric Adams wins NY mayoral election
Eric Adams of the Democratic Party, who previously announced support for crypto assets, has won the election for the mayor of New York on the 3rd.
During his election night party speech in June, Adams had said that New York would become the center of Bitcoins. “We’re going to bring businesses. We’re going to become the center of life science, the center of cybersecurity, the center of self-driving cars, drones, the center of bitcoins,” Adams said at the time.
A clear favorite, Adam won by more than 2/3rd of the votes in the election, followed by 29% of votes cast to Curtis Sliwa of the Republican party. Adam has become the second African-American mayor after David Dinkins in the 1990s. He has promised to improve government inefficiencies and put public security at the center of the election campaign.
Growing up in a poor environment, Adams was beaten by a police officer at the age of 15. He joined the New York Police Department to change the policy from the inside. Since then, he has served as a New York State Senator and Brooklyn Borough President.
In the US, the number of local government leaders who support cryptocurrencies and promote policies surrounding the space has been gradually increasing. For instance, the Mayor of Miami announced that he will receive 100% of his next paycheck in Bitcoin.
