Solana-based wallet Phantom to release mobile version
Phantom, a popular Solana-based wallet, announced plans to release a mobile version of its wallet at the Breakpoint conference in Lisbon. One of the most used wallets in the Solana network, the app version is set to release in January 2022.
Phantom is a non-custodial crypto wallet that supports SOL, Solana-based tokens, and NFTs. In addition, it has a token-swap function. With its weekly active users exceeding 1.2 million, the protocol has decided to go beyond its browser extension and introduce a smartphone app.
A mobile app is essential to connect to Solana’s DeFi and NFT platforms from a smartphone, and would result in a rise in Phantom and Solana user base. As of now, Solana’s DeFi ecosystem manages approximately $15 billion in assets.
“We’re expanding as quickly as we can to meet the new inflow of demand for applications built on Solana,” said Brandon Millman co-founder and CEO of Phantom in a statement. “With this launch, we’re giving existing and new users the opportunity to use a solid crypto wallet on-the-go.”
In July 2021, the wallet managed to raise about $9 million in a Series A round led by a16z, with participation from the Solana Foundation, the Ethereum Foundation, Jump Capital, Variant Fund, and DeFi Alliance. At the time, the company explained that the funds would be used for developments such as multi-chain support and introducing more features.
Apart from Phantom, two Solana-based wallets have recently launched smartphone apps. One of the first Solana-based wallets, SolFlare released a smartphone app last week. The wallet currently has a stake of over 22% of the entire supply of SOL.
Meanwhile, Solana-based DEX Slope Finance launched Slope wallet in September with availability in both mobile app stores and Chrome extension.
