Square Enix to consider entering NFT, blockchain game
Popular Japanese game publisher Square Enix is looking to expand its forte into NFT games after the success of its previous NFT project. The plans transpired during the company’s second-quarter financial results briefing for the fiscal year ending March 2022.
Recently, Square Enix released a limited edition ‘Million Arthur NFT digital stickers’ via LINE marketplace on October 14th. As per reports, the company wanted to demonstrate the kind of synergies, that can be created by combining NFTs and the company’s business assets. The NFTs were sold out as soon as they hit the marketplace.
Now, in addition to adding secondary market trading support for LINE and Yahoo Japan’s subsidiary LVC, the company would also move from the proof of concept stage “to full commercialization phase” as part of its medium-term business strategy.
“[We] have recognized that NFTs have high affinity with our assets,” the financial report stated. It said, “[The] proof of concept phase is over. Will transition to full commercialization phase.”
‘Million Arthur’ was jointly developed by Double Jump.Tokyo/MCH+, a blockchain company known for its masterpieces such as My Crypto Heroes. The developer used LINE blockchain to mint the NFTs.
Square Enix is known for publishing several popular games such as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts. It reported 32.5% YoY growth in net sales for MMO games in its financial report.
