The Top 10 Metaverse Coins by Market Cap as We Head into December

The Metaverse became a big trend in November. Right around Halloween, Mark Zuckerberg shook the social media world, not to mention the crypto world, with his announcement. The long-term impact of this seemingly minuscule event still serves as rocket fuel for metaverse and gaming coins, which have already moved past the moon.

Let’s review the top 10 coins related to metaverses and blockchain games!

#10 Star Atlas

Star Atlas is an open space strategy game on blockchain. The developers promised a big world built on Unreal Engine with exploration, battles, mini-games, resources mining, station modular construction, and other mechanics with a decentralized play-to-earn frame.

Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t show us the gameplay so far. Let’s wait for more information from the developers before we draw conclusions.

#9 My Neighbor Alice

My Neighbor Alice has developed by leaps and bounds. After the successful token sale this summer, ALICE almost entered the top 100 cryptos. Right after that, the developers introduced a closed beta version in September for the holders. The game release date is scheduled for Spring 2022. Moreover, it’s still listed in Steam despite its dislike for crypto games.

By gameplay, My Neighbor Alice shares a lot of similarities with Animal Crossing from Nintendo. At first look, it might seem like a farming game. However, it is a social simulation video game. Growing crops or any kind of other farming mechanics are only the addition, while the real game is a social simulator. But it’s not in the life simulation genre like Sims.

The developers introduced the entire town, and there are multiple ways of interacting with other gaming characters, which are real people.

#8 Yield Guild Games

Yield Guild Games became one of the enthusiasts of blockchain gaming. Everything started during the pandemic in the Philippines. At that time, locals found out that they could earn more in a Pokémon-like game than the average salary around the country.

That was the push for Gabby Dizon, Beryl Li, and the third anonymous co-founder to create Yield Guild Games and start providing gaming characters for rent for a small payment. As Axie Infinity already became too expensive to start, people were renting NFTs in order to acquire their own character and start earning on their own.

The company didn’t stop with Axies. Now, their portfolio includes such blockchain games as The Sandbox, Illuvium, F1 Delta Time, Star Atlas, Zed Run, Splinterlands, Ember Sword, Thetan Arena, etc.

#7 Illuvium

Illuvium is slated to become a full-fledged open-world adventure RPG. It hit the market this year with a successful token sale and exponential growth. At the time of writing the article, the token’s price passed the threshold of $1.7K, from the starting price in April, which was $50.

On the other hand, the game started this trend of having IGOs before even having the game itself. For example, the Illuvium trailer was shown only recently, 6-7 months after the token release.

So far, the game promises to be one of the best Pokémon-like games on the blockchain. The 3D visuals look adorable, and the gameplay should be full of exploration within a futuristic planet. Also, the developers have promised to get rid of gas fees even though the game is built on the Ethereum blockchain.

#6 UFO Gaming

UFO Gaming is going to become an outer space multiverse. They introduced one blockchain game, Super Galactic, which seems like a twin-stick shooter on blockchain. The most classical representation of this genre is old-school Asteroid, but today it experienced a metamorphosis in the indie gaming fields. Now, such popular indies as The Binding of Isaac, Hotline Miami, and Enter the Gungeon are twin-stick shooters. On the other hand, this genre in the blockchain game industry is untouched. Thus, the UFO Gaming team found a free niche.

On the flipside, the token took sixth place because of a self-reported market cap of around $1.5K. However, CoinMarketCap hasn’t checked this information yet. That’s why you can find the coin in the top 200 at CoinGecko but not in CMC.

#5 Enjin Coin

Enjin became the pioneer of crypto metaverses. The developers claim they established the project at a time when Satoshi Nakamoto released Bitcoin. The creation of the real gaming metaverse had been bugging them for a long time.

The concept of Enjin is a universal network in which you can integrate your game. Therefore, your gaming NFTs can be suitable for usage in other games in the ecosystem. Just imagine that you can farm one kind of resource in one game and immediately use it for different purposes in another one, just because they both are connected to one Enjin wallet that stores all the NFTs as well as other fungible tokens.

#4 Gala Games

Gala Games was on high rotation in the media before the metaverse boom happened, and it has maintained its position. Gala Games provides a great selection of blockchain projects with an emphasis on gameplay. Also, the developers aim to create an almost-invisible crypto economy in each game, which will provide gamers the simplicity of traditional games.

So far, the ecosystem includes several projects, two of which are available for playing already. The review of all Gala Games projects is here:

#3 The Sandbox

The top three on this pedestal have been well-known in the crypto community for a long time. The Sandbox and Decentraland are examples of the “true” metaverse that all enthusiasts believed crypto would reach one day.

The Sandbox gives you the possibility to own land and all the in-game items like NFTs. Just as it sounds, it’s indeed a sandbox. The game looks similar to Minecraft. Moreover, the developers even provide the possibility to move your creations from The Sandbox to Minecraft. Thus, the gameplay mechanics are up to you. You decide how to use the world.

Also, the Sandbox includes a built-in game maker to create mini-games within the metaverse. Furthermore, you can earn SAND or LAND tokens if people play it.

The Sandbox has already partnered with Snoop Dogg, Deadmau5, the Walking Dead, Avenged Sevenfold, Atari, Samsung, and LG.

The launch of the alpha version is scheduled for November 29 at 10 AM UTC.

#2 Axie Infinity

Is there anyone that doesn’t know about Axie Infinity? All the social media was chewing our ears off about these virtual pets on blockchain. Indeed, the game’s influence on the crypto world is inestimable. Along with Yield Guild Games, the developer team Sky Mavis popularized crypto games and showed that NFTs are not just expensive JPEGs or pieces of code.

The game literally created the play-to-earn revolution in the first half of 2021. By gameplay, it’s a virtual pet RPG like Pokémon. However, the developers introduced many other mechanics to the game, such as breeding, land ownership, and promise to introduce farming in the near future.

Of course, one of the distinctive features of the game is a quite advanced economy, even for a crypto game. The game uses three types of tokens and introduced the first in-game crypto exchange, which means you can swap your in-game currency into a stablecoin without even leaving the game itself.

#1 Decentraland

The winner of today’s top ten metaverse coins is Decentraland. This is the first full-fledged 3D crypto metaverse. The game hosts everything: online events, NFT galleries, and even other games. For example, Zed Run and Battle Racers are officially available for playing on PC and mobile as well as inside the Decentraland metaverse.

One of its most important features is live communication. It’s literally an entire metaverse inside your computer. For example, there is even an event billboard if you wonder what to do in this world. The only limit you have there is your imagination.

Although here comes the dilemma: why should we create virtual worlds if we can communicate, visit events, and play games in the real world? On the other hand, videogames let us do what we cannot do in real life. Metaverses are only the new link in the gaming evolutionary chain.

Therefore, we have yet to see what’s going to happen in the future. However, Decentraland is definitely one of the most developed metaverses.
