Ethereum Foundation rolls out incentive program to strengthen mainnet
Ethereum Foundation, dedicated to supporting the development of the Ethereum network, announced on Monday its plans to carry out an incentive program called “Client Incentive Program”.
Ethereum ‘Clients’ are softwares that verify all transactions in each block and enable communication over a P2P network. The program aims to offer better incentive opportunities to development teams or ‘clients’ that have contributed to maintaining and improving the overall health and decentralization of Ethereum’s mainnet.
“Recently, more avenues have become available for these teams to build sustainable businesses, but most of those focus on mainnet-adjacent opportunities rather than the main Ethereum network,” the announcement read, explaining the reason behind the move.
With this new ‘Client Incentive Program’, Ethereum will distribute incentives to teams that perpetuate the development of software that maintains mainnet performance and security. Each client team will be given 144 validators (4,608 ETH) to maintain the network.
The announcement also listed the teams that are eligible to participate in the program. They are Besu, Erigon, Go-ethereum (geth), Lighthouse, Lodestar, Nethermind, Nimbus, Prysm, and Teku.
Commenting on the announcement, Aya Miyaguchi, Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation, tweeted:
“…although the name says “Incentive”, we hope that the program also symbolizes the appreciation the Ethereum community has for the teams who have remained focused on building and maintaining the public goods that support the network.”
