SEC Chair Gensler appoints Corey Frayer as senior advisor for crypto
United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chair Gary Gensler has appointed a new senior official who will offer advice on crypto policies to the financial regulator.
The chairman has specifically hired Corey Frayer, who previously served as a senior adviser to members of Congress, Maxine Waters, and Brad Miller. Before joining the SEC, Frayer was working as a Senior Professional Staff on the US Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
As per the announcement, the newly hired crypto advisor will advise “Chair Gensler on SEC policymaking and interagency work relating to the oversight of crypto assets.” With the new hire, Gensler will likely look forward to establishing policies and frameworks on cryptocurrencies in 2022.
Alongside Frayer, Gensler has hired Philipp Havenstein, Jennifer Songer, and Jorge G. Tenreiro as the latest additions to his executive staff. The trio will serve their positions as operations counsel, investment management counsel, and enforcement counsel, respectively.
