YouTube seeks NFT integration to expand creator ecosystem
Video sharing platform YouTune is looking to jump the NFT bandwagon. In an open letter Tuesday, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki called cryptocurrency, DAOs, and NFTs a “previously unimaginable opportunity to grow the connection between creators and their fans” and said the company looks to expand its ecosystem in the same.
Further exciting the crypto community, Wojcicki mentioned that YouTube is following everything happening in Web3 as a “source of inspiration” for innovation. She wrote:
“We’re always focused on expanding the YouTube ecosystem to help creators capitalize on emerging technologies, including things like NFTs, while continuing to strengthen and enhance the experiences creators and fans have on YouTube.”
While the letter did not offer details on ways YouTube would utilize the technologies, the company will continue to focus on innovation.
Meanwhile, YouTube head of gaming Ryan Wyatt announced Tuesday that he is leaving YouTube next month to join Polygon as the CEO of Polygon Studios, the NFT arm of Layer 2 scaling solution Polygon.
Wyatt has been leading YouTube’s gaming division for seven years and was an esports commentator before joining YouTube.

YouTube has become the latest social media platform to cash in on the soaring popularity of NFTs. Recently, Twitter unveiled a mechanism where users can display their verified NFTs as their profile photos by linking the app with their Ethereum wallets.
